My Favorite Self-Help Book

O Great Lights and Divine Spirits,

Today I visited an old friend who goes by the name of The Road Less Traveled.

I was in my freshman year in college when we first met. And oh how this book changed my life. I wasn't really into self help books then but RLT opened the floodgates and since then, I have enjoyed (and learned a lot from) reading self-help and inspirational books.

RLT opens with 'Life is difficult'. A familiar tune to those who are aware of Gautama's teaching that 'Life is suffering'. What's there to gain from accepting the fact that life is difficult? It sounds defeatist and for those who have positive mantras, Dr Scott Peck's opening line is a major turn off. But don't judge this book by its first line. Keep in mind that Dr Peck's masterpiece has been on the bestseller list for almost 30 years.

I hope to spend more time in the coming days to touch base with my college friend. I love it when things come full circle.

Hallelujah. Amen.
